About

Ocean Defenders is a grassroots initiative born in 2019 on Salt Spring Island, in the unceded territories and ancestral homelands of Hul’qumi’num and SENĆOŦEN-speaking peoples.

Our intent is to honor the Salish Sea and all that it gives us. We encourage the question: what does it mean to be an ocean defender? Our events blend art, activism and ecological awareness, with the goal of deepening our connections to the sea and stepping up to protect it.
